Students are given pastoral care appropriate to their age, background
and circumstances, and as much help as possible on legal, health
and safety matters.
Our prime concern is student safety. We are committed to providing
a secure environment where young students can enjoy both study and
leisure time. At all our summer centres, supervision is on a ration
of one adult every 7-9 students (considering the staff residing
on campus and the foreign group leaders - we allow one free place
every 15 paying guests ) with the exception of those centre recommended
for students aged 16+.
PLUS staff team is generally made up of a Welfare Director,
a Course Director, an Assistant Course Director, some Leisure Organisers
and Residential Teachers.
Upon arrival at the centre, the groups have a guided orientation
tour around the campus, and each student is given a "Welcome
Pack" with useful information on the location, the language
course, the leisure time activity programme and so on.
Later that day, generally in the afternoon or before the "Welcome
party", the Welfare and the Course Director will address the
students introducing the staff, the teachers, and explain the organization
of their stay in terms of study course, free time activities, conduct
rules, safety rules and procedure etc.
The safety of our students is extremely important which is why we
ensure that Emergency exit signs are clearly identifiable throughout
the buildings. Fire and safety instructions are clearly displayed
in every classroom and in all common areas. A fire drill will be
carried out in the subsequent days.
Students are asked to always carry an ID document and the college
which they receive upon arrival at the centre with relevant address
and phone emergency numbers
Quite
often, a local policeman intervenes during this first general
meeting to lecture on law, safety precautions, drugs, thefts,
shop lifting, etc. and broadly speaking how young people may adjust
to life and study in a foreign country.
