The rules we follow, and what your group can expect.

The rules we follow
 
Single-sex bedrooms

Boys and girls never share a bedroom.

 
Separate bathrooms

Designated bathrooms for boys and girls, and separate arrangements for adults.

 
Students and adults apart

Group Leaders and staff never share a room with students. Students aged 18 are roomed under specific guidelines.

 
Up to 4 years' age gap

Between students sharing a bedroom, unless special arrangements are agreed.

 
Younger students never isolated

Under-12s room with, or next to, a suitable peer, or close to their Group Leader.

 
An adult on every floor

Usually the students' own Group Leader, or PLUS staff where the building does not allow it.

What to expect
Every building is different

The rooming plan has to fit the residence. This is what that can mean for your group.

Every bed is filled

Rooms are often filled to capacity. If your group does not fill its last room, the remaining student may share with a student from another group of the same sex and a similar age, and where possible the same language.

Large groups may be split

We keep each group in the same building or floor wherever possible. When a group is larger than the space available, it is split into sensible sub-groups, such as by gender or age.

Boys and girls may be on the same floor

Bedrooms are always single-sex. We aim for separate floors or wings, but the building layout, or keeping students close to their Group Leader, can sometimes mean boys and girls are in the same area, particularly in ensuite accommodation.

Flats may be shared

In flats of single, lockable en-suite rooms, boys and girls, or students and Group Leaders, may occasionally be in the same flat. Every bedroom is private, lockable and has its own bathroom.

Groups stay together, whatever the ages

We do not separate a group by age, so students stay close to their Group Leader.

On campus
Once rooms are allocated
Allocations are final

Rooms are agreed in advance with the host institution. Empty rooms nearby are often held for emergencies and cannot be used. We only change a group's rooms under special circumstances.

No swaps without approval

Students stay in their allocated rooms unless PLUS approves a change, as we must always know who sleeps where for fire safety and night checks. 

Changes on arrival

Occasionally the rooming plan has to be adjusted on site. We keep this to a minimum, and every change follows the same rules.

Roommates

Link students who want to room together, or next to each other, with Share Codes in the roster. We do our best, but cannot guarantee it.

ROOM TYPES
Single and en-suite rooms

Guaranteed only when booked and confirmed in writing. Otherwise they are subject to availability and allocated at our discretion.

 
Before your group travels
Help us get it right

Accurate information from you helps us plan the best possible rooming.

  • ✓Send an accurate roster with each student's sex and date of birth.
  • ✓Tell us straight away if your numbers, or the split of boys and girls, change.
  • ✓Add share codes for students who want to room together.

  • ✓Share this guide with your Group Leaders and families.

All rooming is decided by PLUS together with the host university, in line with our Safeguarding Policy.
